Web Site Designing - Do's and Don'ts

Going to design a web site, there are some precautions

To advertise a business on internet, website is a must. As web site is an important part of a business so

designing a web site is really a very challenging task to the webmaster or web designer. A website includes a lot of things like content, keywords, SEO, SEM, design, navigability etc but there are certain things that can't be overindulged. If you are going to do more than what is needed then it may cause a business loss for you. Before designing a web site, a web designer needs to research up on website information and finally apply the knowledge gained.

Some Do's in Web Site Designing

1. Avoid Multimedia and Plug-Ins:- Using pointless pug-ins and multimedia is not a very favorable task for every web site. A visitor will not try to download the stuff out up by you as it is a very time consuming task. He/ She may not get the information outright and this can let him/ her to move on to other websites for more relevant content and information.

2. Use Old Version HTML:-It is a common fact that most of the visitors do not use the latest versions of soft wares immediately. Therefore, a web designer or a web master may need to use the previous versions of the soft wares.

3. Two Versions Of A Website:- A web designer may create two versions of a website: one for the new version browsers and another for the old version browsers. Go ahead only after doing enough research and when you are sure that this will be of use to the business and it will not cause a business loss.

4. Put an email link on the page:- Try to give an email link on each page of web site. It provides the quick access.

You should also keep the following things in mind:-

  • Include update date and update frequently
  • Include contact names and addresses
  • Use alternative text along with graphics for non-graphics users
  • Add alternative text links for image maps
  • Maintain an overall style and cohesiveness
  • Include varieties of navigation paths
  • Use distinctive titles for pages
  • Use short file names
  • Use a spell checker
  • Provide worthwhile content
  • Think through the experience from different points of view
  • Test with different computers and speeds

Some Don'ts in Web Site Designing

1. Avoid making a websites that do not tell the users about their operations and business.

2. Websites that do not provide any email address and contact information to correspond are useless.

3. Don't use horrible, mismatching colors for web pages.

4. Avoid using ugly backgrounds.

5. Be conscious about spelling and grammatical errors.

Now, it is the key duty of any web designer to keep the above thumbnails always in mind while making a website so that it (website) can serve its purpose.
