Web Content Strategy - A Great Job for Smart, Organized Writers

Web Content Strategy may be one of the best writing/editing jobs out there. I've done everything from technical writing, to book authoring, to freelance writing and, so far, Web Content Strategy offers the best mix of creativity, autonomy, and a fun team environment that I've found in any job.

In the context of a large Web site development project, Web Content Strategy is a repeatable system that defines the entire editorial content development process, from very early tasks such as analyzing and classifying readers to the very last tasks, such as planning for the ongoing content maintenance after the project launches.

It is the Web content strategist's job is to:

  • Make sure that every individual piece of content on the proposed site is recorded, accounted for, assigned, and tracked
  • Assign a specific person (not a department) for creation, editing, copy approval, translation, translation approval, legal approval, meta data definition, electronic storage and retrieval, periodic review, etc. for each content item
  • Write site content and edit content submitted by others
  • Track the ongoing progress of each task
  • Create, and get approval for, contingency plans for major content milestones
  • Train and supervise the content staff and possibly create an editorial style guide for the Web if none exists
  • Work with the technical leads to represent the end users when creating Web Content Management Systems, templates, and automated workflows

Most Web content strategists work for creative, Web site design and development studios. Here work is done by the project so each project team is like a small company, working independently from all the other project teams. So you really feel that you have a say in how things get done and you get the credit for doing a good job. You get the stability of a larger company, and lots of great social interaction with team members, without being completely independent and working alone in your house all day.

So who can be a Web content strategist? I've seen writers with proven backgrounds in technical writing, PR writing, copywriting, corporate communications, journalism, and book editing all be very successful in this field. If you are a proven, smart, well-organized writer, with an interest in the Web, you have a good shot at a career in Web content strategy.

Monster.com, Career Builder, and Dice.com all list web content strategy jobs as do many local web sites devoted to tech writing, interactive marketing, and Web development. A good first step in towards getting a job in the field is to re-label work you may have already done and listed in your resume. If you have written Web content, and helped the client figure out what needed to be written, or helped plan the writing project, then you have already done some content strategy work! Change, or add these items to your resume and you already have one foot in the door. A second good tactic is to look for work as a contractor. Most companies would rather work with you on a contract basis before hiring you anyway, so work with a local technical contract placement company to get your resume out for contract only positions.

The outlook for web content strategy work is good and growing as web sites get larger and contain more content. Salaries and hourly rates are also good. I know web content strategists with a few year experience who are making six figures! Remember, this field is not yet ten years old, so no one has all that much experience. Many companies are just now figuring out they want to standardize how they do content strategy so this is a great time to get started!

Richard Sheffield is currently managing editor for a Fortune 50 corporate Web site and has functioned as a Web content strategist (and hired and trained content strategists) since 1999. Web Site Content Management Systems And Its Importance

Content is a vital component of any website or any marketing/advertising tool, for that matter. However, this was realized only lately that it is important to have good content on the website. Earlier, having a website meant designing visually creative pages. Importance of content was always ignored and it was just thought of as placing some text in between various pieces of graphics. However, with the advent of search engines, importance of content gained prominence. The advantages of having good content finally started receiving its long due significance. With the importance of content growing for websites, the need for web site content management systems has also increased.

There are various factors that bring the importance of web site content management under prime consideration.

  • Putting relevant quality content on the website will clearly define the objective of the website and convey the business/company/product profile.
  • A website with good content will have visitors spending more time on it and returning to the site often.
  • Having properly structured niche content will increase the website's credibility and may help in converting a visitor into a potential customer.
  • Content with adequate number of keywords will make the website search engine optimized, thus improving its visibility on search engine results.
  • Other websites will want to link to quality content rich website. This will increase the number of referral visitors to the website and also its exposure to search engines thereby increasing the overall popularity of the website.

Having understood the importance of content, it is also essential to know the web site content management process. There are various ways of getting good content. You can write the required content yourself and get it tweaked from a professional editor or you can directly hire a professional content writer. However, before doing the above steps of directly writing the content or getting it written, the objectives for having a proper content should be clearly defined. This could include making decisions about:

  • Target audience with relevant demographics, if applicable.
  • Length of the content and its structure.
  • Specific words that need to be used and number of times they should occur in the entire content.
  • Distribution of the content over the website.
  • Frequency of updating the content.
  • Use of appropriate web site content management system.

A website with tidy, crisp, and persuasive content will definitely have lot of visitors hitting the site regularly. No matter how multimedia rich and flashy your website is, rich content is now a mandatory requirement for the survival of your website.

Web Development Can Be A Pain When You Do Not Know What It Is

Web development is a broad term for any activities related to developing a web site for the World Wide Web or an intranet. web development is challenging in that it needs a broad understanding of many technologies/tools/standards/concepts to bring it all together in some sort of web system. Web development is a fascinating and constantly evolving activity. Web development is not something that just anyone should jump into. Web development is becoming a more prosperous industry lately.

Web development can range from developing the simplest static single page of plain text to the most complex web-based internet applications, electronic businesses, or social network services. This can include e-commerce business development, web design, web content development, client-side/server-side coding, and web server configuration. The growth of this industry is being pushed by large businesses wishing to sell products and services to their customers and to automate business workflow, as well as the growth of many small web design and development companies. With more and more businesses realising that web-based software is not only convenient, flexible and cool, but hey, it's pretty cost-effective too, the discipline balance within new projects is tipping towards development rather than a design. I admit I do not know but the fact that we, the "system trolls" are still in business is an indicator.

Web design professionals are obligated to focus on the business goals of their clients and make recommendations that are in the client's best interests. By approaching the Web project as an information solution, among the galaxy of information solutions and organizational realities that face clients, developers are equipped to design a Web site or application that best contributes to their business success. This will ensure that the final deliverable achieves the proper balance to maximize effectiveness and business success.

Web developers now assist in delivering applications as Web services which were traditionally only available as local applications. With that in mind, your business web site is often the first contact between your company and consumers still shopping around for goods and services. Best practices covered include sophisticated user interface techniques, intelligent caching and resource management, performance tuning, debugging, testing, and web services. Our Affordable Web Design Services include: a custom site designed using a combination of JavaScript, Php, Perl, CSS, and mySQL database (if needed) to create a site that is not only appealing, but easy to maintain too. With our Affordable Web Design Services we can create a dynamic, visually appealing, web site that seamlessly integrates e-commerce, database connectivity, usability, search engine optimization, and Internet marketing.

Web Design Company

Having a website of one's own can be a great tool to promote oneself. Most professionals, be it a businessman or anyone with a creative bent of mind who wants to show their work in general, rely on the website as a tool for advertisement. The need of the hour therefore is an effective web site, which will attract more people to your site resulting in more sales and more business.

This is where a web design company comes in. In this age of specialization, it is not possible and desired also that a single firm handles every aspect of business. Keeping this in mind, added to the fact that one needs an extra professional touch, the professional web designing companies are hired.

Small firms with small budgets need not be worried. Hiring a web designing company does not necessarily mean a huge expense. These days there are various options available on the net itself. Various web-designing companies advertise their services, where you are provided various options in terms of prices, quality, and design. Moreover, there are a large number of companies, which offer services at extremely lowered rates because of the overall competition.

If your budget is very small, you might think of hiring a web design company that is just starting out because these companies will be ready to work at very competitive prices, since they have not yet established themselves as they go about establishing themselves in the market.

Most web design companies have the required skill as well as the technical back up and experience for creating innovative new web sites. Most web design companies offer services like designing customized web sites, as well as changing or redesigning or adding to an existing web site. The professional web design companies use technologies such as JavaScript, Flash, and DHTML to give a professional touch. Some customers also want marketing to be done for their websites. In such a case there are plenty such websites, which give this additional service too, by following web standards like easy accessibility, usability, and search engine optimized content.

Before starting off with the work for a web site, you must of course decide, how your web site would look and what is the basic object behind having your own web site. This would give you a fair idea of how to go about the process. Once you have the basic framework, you will have to gather content for your website. You website can have either text or photographs, or both.

One has to ensure that the company working on your website has a good knowledge of your requirements and more importantly will do justice to the your business.

When Web Development Starts to Take Into Account the User

Up until a few years ago, web development was gone about in a utilitarian kind of way. Something needed to get done, and a quick and logical solution was found for it. Technologies such as cgi, asp, ajax all came about to give answers to difficult questions such as how to create dynamic pages. Php eventually won out by being the most efficient and easy-to-learn language along with MySql databases. With great support and free software, these were the best web development solutions out there for the common user.

It is that common user that made this evolution happen. When people who were not trained in web design started making their own websites, then finally the most accessible web development technologies became commonplace. But still, web development was not being done in a way that was turned toward the user. It was done in a functional way that solved any issues that arose, but did not ultimately help the user get around a site or ever find the website. That is when the push for css-based design and url re-write mods came to be.

One of the heroes of this movement in my mind is Dave Shea. He pushed for standards in web development and for the use of CSS-based designs that minimized the amount of html and improved the versatility of websites and made universal access and compatibility a must. By keeping the user in mind, designs became more artistic and creative. Javascript and Flash often get in the way of a good web experience for many users and CSS takes care of that partially by creating desired effects without having to use these two programs. Of course, there are always limitless possibilities with Flash design, but in terms of usability, it is inferior to CSS.

The push for Search Engine Optimization has also pushed web developers to make websites with easy to remember url's and well organized content that makes sense to users and search engines. Google's algorithm becomes smarter and requires that page content be readable to humans and not just robots. Good use of headers and semantic page content as opposed to spam-dexing has become more commonplace. Web development has helped with this by generating attractive url's and, through css, has done image replacement for header tags for design purposes.

Custom Web Site Designers

Business owners do not need to know and understand Web languages. It is possible to hire custom Web designers to transform trade ideas into useful Web sites. With the advent of the Internet, the demand for web designers grew. However, in modern times, development in technology and business needs have created huge growth options for custom Web designers.

Web designing is important for all businesses. These include informative, architectural, e-commerce, telecommunication and even small businesses. A company website provides a window for the world to know what a particular business is focused towards. Businesses may be competitive, but are never similar. Understanding this allows custom Web designers to create personal and customized Web site designs, which are tailor made for each client.

Businesses may hire freelance custom website designers or attain the services of a company specializing in this field. Initially, a design quote is agreed upon. Based on this, the specialized designer or team of designers study and understand company goals and purposes. In most cases, custom Web designers sketch a business outline and upload it on a personal Web hosting service. These include concept sketches, markups for desired effects and user-friendly navigation techniques. Upon approval, custom website designers continue to create graphics, HTML codes, and flash animations.

Custom Web designers almost always work together with business owners. This allows them to incorporate all business thoughts and concepts during website designing. A custom designed Web site helps providing an edge over the competitors, which is the key factor in attracting potential customers. Hiring these services allow businesses to make a good first impression.

In most cases, the original Web designer provides maintenance and updating services. This paves the way for better results, fewer problems and consequently lowers business-operating costs. While selecting, it is imperative to find an affordable and effective custom website designer who is able to provide adequate Web solutions. The purpose of employing a custom web designer is create an engaging Web site that is easy to navigate, quick loading, search engine friendly and up to date.

Five Steps Of Good Web Designing

Building a website is easy but designing it is not. Following are the five essential steps required for a good web designing:

• Determine your website's goal so that the website can be designed accordingly. Choose a domain name for your website. Either do it yourself or hire a consultant for it. Hire persons to design your website and also others who will write the content for your website. Assign someone to do the site maintenance job. Select the correct keywords for your website.

• Carefully plan your website on paper first. Do detailed planning on all the things like the content, link sharing etc. Using templates while designing your website can help gain consistency for your website and also the coding process will be sped up.

• In your website design, don't use technology just for the sake of it. Avoid using gadgets such as Java/JavaScript, animated GIF, too many graphics and other tools unnecessarily. Using these gadgets slow down the loading speed of your webpage. If your page takes too long to download, people will just move out of your site as they will loose the interest.

• Add a device through which anyone interested can contact you. It is as simple as adding an email link. Add a device through which your visitors can tell you their opinions about your site. This is specially required if your purpose is business on net. Use simple navigation links so that visitors can easily move through the pages of your website. Also optimize your site so that they become search engine friendly.

• Test your website and make sure it is supported by the different browsers, resolutions, computers etc. so that every interested visitor can view the content of your website without any problem.

Web Design and Internet

Since the introduction of the World Wide Web, computers and the internet have become indispensable to human life and it is at times alarming to note the amount of dependency that human beings exercise over these mechanical devices. It is known that in order to gain information, one usually enters the significant key words regarding which the information is required and the web search engines provide a list of websites that it feels will provide the necessary data. Therefore websites are extremely important as not only do they provide a plethora of information but at the same time their presentable features play a very significant role in boosting their popularity and marketability as well.

The art of web designing refers to the different methods employed in designing a website and giving it an appearance that would not only lure consumers but at the same time provide the necessary information as well. In the present world where external appearance is so important web designing is definitely a very important aspect. In purely technical terms, web designing refers to the conceptualizing, development and designing of the delivery of electronic media content with the aid of the internet. This electronic media content is transferred in the form of mark up language which can be easily deciphered by the web browser and also by the Graphical User Interface or GUI which is responsible for displaying them. The primary purpose of web designing is to aid the conception of a website and lead to its inception and this is done in the form of storing in the form of a set electronic files on the web server which display content in the form of web pages. In this case it is necessary to point out that web pages can be of two kinds, namely static web pages and dynamic web pages. When it comes to static web pages, these are pages which do not engage in transferring their contents unless it is done manually by an experienced and efficient programmer. On the contrary, dynamic web pages can readily alter themselves depending on certain external factors and this change in content is facilitated by the use of various scripting languages like Actionscript, JScript and JavaScript.

In case of web designing it is necessary to remember that web pages contain both images as well as written content and these data need to conform to certain forms like JPEG, PNG, GIF and for written content XHTML, HTML, XML etc.

What is a website?

A web site usually consists of text and images. The first page of a web site is known as the Home page or Index. Some web sites use what is commonly called a Splash Page. Splash pages might include a welcome message, language or region selection, or disclaimer. Each web page within a web site is an HTML file which has its own URL.

After each web page is created, they are typically linked together using a navigation menu composed of hyperlinks. Faster browsing speeds have led to shorter attention spans and more demanding online visitors and this has resulted in less use of Splash Pages, particularly where commercial web sites are concerned.

Turning a website into an income source is a common practice for web-developers and website owners. There are several methods for creating a website business which fall into two broad categories, as defined below.

1. Content based sites

Some websites derive revenue by selling advertising space on the site

2. Product or service based sites

Some websites derive revenue by offering products or services. In the case of e-commerce websites, the products or services may be purchased at the website itself,

Web Development Basics

Web development is basically the term used to refer to the activities that are connected in the development of a website to be put up on an Intranet or the World Wide Web. It could be split into different areas like web content development, web server configuration, server side coding, client side coding and of course, web design.

But among webmasters and other web professionals, the term web development is commonly used to refer to the aspects of website building which are not directly related to designing such as coding and writing markup. It could range from the design and development of a simple web page that only has plain text to the most sophisticated and complex electronic businesses, web-based applications or social networking services.

With bigger organizations and companies, the teams are made up of lot of people, probably even hundreds. But the smaller companies might just require one contracting or permanent Webmaster. Web development could be considered as something that would require the collaborative effort between several departments instead of just one.

Web developers must have a couple of skills and sufficient knowledge in web and graphic designing, copywriting and proofreading that incorporates concepts in web accessibility and search engine optimization, information architecture and other IT development aspects.

There have been a lot of transformation and change that have been brought about by web development, particularly in the world of e-commerce. Online resellers like Buy.com and Amazon.com as well as auction websites like eBay have changed the overall shopping experience of online consumers.

How To Build A Web Store

Many people think that it is easy to build a web store and launch their business online. After all, all there is to it is just getting a good idea, buying a domain name and getting a web designing and hosting firm to do the rest. However, it is much easier said than done and it takes a lot of hard work, time and effort in order to build a web store that proves to be a success. Given below are a few tips that should help you in creating a web store that has a chance at making profit.

1. Create an extensively thought of and detailed business plan.

2. Once you have decided the product that you want to sell, make sure that you also have more than one supplier who gives you good prices and good delivery times.

3. Next, choose a good domain name for your site. Try to keep it relevant to what you are selling and as simple and easy to spell as possible.

4. Search extensively for the most used keywords when people are looking for products that you are selling. Try to incorporate the most relevant one into your url if possible, and use the others extensively on your web site in order to optimize it for search engine result pages.

5. Next comes getting a good host and designer for your web page. It is a good idea to contract a single company for designing, hosting and maintaining your website, since it will save you from a lot of hassle when your web site goes through the initial hiccups.

6. While your web site is being designed, keep the following things in mind. The site should be as professional looking as possible. It should not take a lot of time to open on a client computer. At the same time, it should not be dull or boring looking. The web site should be enriched with keywords and SEOs right at the inception. All the legal stuff regarding the privacy policy and the terms and conditions of sales, shipments and returns should be well taken care of before you launch your site online.

7. A good web designing firm should be able to develop content for your website that is rich with SEOs. At the same time, your web hosting and designing firm should be able to put in the appropriate meta tags and keywords on your web site to make it search engine friendly.

8. However, just making your website search engine friendly is not enough, and you will also need to post as many back links to your websites on forums, blogs and other related web sites as possible. Post your url in as many directories as possible.

9. Advertising with the relevant directories and websites should also lead to generation of some relevant traffic to your web site.

Taking care of the above points while you build your web store should definitely increase its chances of being successful. Remember that getting the right help and tools while you build your web store is extremely important for creating a profit making web store.

Website Development - To Keep Your Site Crisp and Fresh

Talking of Web Development does not always mean talking about the technical changes that take place in the website, there are a number of features that are grouped together to form the crux of website development. These include, web content development, server side coding and configuration, web designing as well as website marketing. All of these combine to form the comprehensive website development program.

Web development can differ from designing to developing a simple web page, to a sophisticated website application creation. It is one thing which is required in every website, be it a business site or a social networking portal. Web development business is generally a big business, and requires skilled and trained professionals to do the business. Ideally a web developer must have sufficient knowledge of a lot of things including graphic designing, content writing and proofreading. Many websites believe in hiring an in-house web developer as the web master of the firm, who will know about the good and bad things in a website. On the other hand, smaller organizations appoint website development companies outside the organization to conduct their web development program.

Web development processes have resulted in making these websites more competitive, smooth in functioning and creative in nature. The prime reason for website development is to ensure the smooth functioning of the website. To make sure that the website is friendly in its approach to its users and is perfectly supporting the prime purpose of the website.

The development process of a website is generally a continuous process. Some or the other changes aught to be made in the website, in order to make sure that the site is always updated. Latest technologies are utilized to bring about these changes in the website, so that there is never a loop hole in its functioning. The biggest problem that sites face with website development is the major capital investment that they demand. Website development methods are in one way the most expensive part of website creation, nevertheless they also comprise a major chunk of designing too. But considering the long term benefits these procedures provide, the investment is definitely worthwhile.

Web Designers Are Not Marketing Experts

Oh no don't put that on your site! That won't work! That's not possible! It can't be done! You just need more traffic. Etc...

Sound familiar?

I hear these excuses all the time. Web designers are not marketing experts and many don't actually give a monkeys whether or not you make any sales.

So many business owners are held back by their web designers and either do not make the required changes to their sites or get put off by down right nonsense that many of these surf boarding junkies talk about.

It's time to set the record straight!

You pay your designer to do a job and if you have even a half decent one they'll do the work you ask, providing you tell them what you want doing instead of asking for their opinion.

If you do struggle it's time to find someone else who's willing to take your strategies and make them happen.

Now before you think I'm slating web designers all together, I'm not, some of them are actually very good, It just pains me to see so many of you with really great ideas fall at the first hurdle due to "poor designers" or the ones that tell you what you can and can't do with YOUR business.

At the end of the day, you should be the one in charge of your marketing efforts. I can help you by giving you great suggestions and strategies to try but what's the point if you don't actually put them into practice?

Now I'm also not going to tell you that everything you try will dramatically increase sales, some may actually reduce sales. HOWEVER, you will never discover the true earning potential of your website unless you are prepared to invest some time and test new tactics to convert more of your existing traffic into actual paying customers.

Every website that we work on, whether this is our own sites or our clients sites, is constantly under going changes, tests and tweaks.

Web Design That Gets ReWeb Design That Gets Results, Not Just Trafficsults, Not Just Traffic

Let's say that you have a website that has been around for quite a while, that you have done some SEO and now you are getting thousands of visitors every week. But you are not making money. Visitors come to your website, browse, and move on. You have a conversion problem. And there are few remedies to a conversion problem than a website re-design.

When you re-design your website, don't make the same mistakes. Design a website that will get you results, not just visitors.

BUILD TRUST. Show what you know by writing articles concerning your sector of activity. Demonstrate your know-how and submit to ezines. Include feedback from customers on your services or products. Show that others have used your services and that they were satisfied. Include your address, phone number, your names, photos of your business, videos, and a quick and easy contact us form. Use SSL certificates on pages that handle sensitive information, create a privacy policy, and tell your publicize both. Make your design look as modern as possible. Web savvy visitors do not trust bad looking websites.

GIVE ANSWERS. Create an FAQ to provide answers to questions that have not yet been asked. Make your navigation simple and accurate. Do not have pages with no content just because you think you should have a page entitled "such and such". Use easy-to-see calls to action to further give people what they are seeking on your website. Have a search bar so that people can get what they are looking for by by-passing your navigation.

BE QUICK. Nothing is more annoying than a website design that takes forever to load. Increase your page load speed to improve your retention rate. Make any of the forms on your website quick and easy to fill-out. Online users do not want to take a lot of time to do anything. By the time they wait for your pages to load or if they see a long form to fill-out they will already be on your competitor's web site.

Web Design Difficulties - 5 Ways to Get Inspiration

Every Web Designer has experienced it on more than one occasion - the lack of inspiration for that next stunning design. Whether you are swamped with projects and simply cannot focus, or you just have not designed in so long that you have lost motivation, these tips will work for you.

1. Take a break - When you are trying to create a new design for a client, there really is no point to staring at the computer screen watching your mouse draw boxes on the Photoshop canvas. Take a break: exit out of Photoshop completely and do something else for a bit that allows your mind to open up. Try going for a jog (or maybe a walk if you are not the running-inclined), or even playing a video game or watching television. The key here is to take your mind off of the fact that you are having a hard time coming up with a design. Then, when you return to your favorite image editing program (do make sure to return), you will have a fresh mind. Or, better yet, an idea will have already hit you when you were on the break!

2. Colors - Color is a big part of design. So, instead of just sitting there, go find something colorful to look at. It can be something physical like a painting or sculpture, or it can be something digital such as color sharing websites (like http://colourlovers.com and http://kuler.adobe.com/). A nice thing about the latter is that those kind of websites usually allow you to download a pallet for Photoshop so you can quickly jump in and start playing around with the colors. If you don't like a certain pallet, just switch to another one - easy.

3. Start somewhere different - Instead of starting where you usually start, try something different. If you usually start creating the logo first, begin by designing the general structure of the website. Use different shapes to give you inspiration - try different rounded borders radii, try not using rounded borders. If you usually start at the opposite end of the spectrum, try creating the logo first. Start out with some basic text - maybe the website name or URL. Then spice it up... would that ampersand look better as a different font? Maybe you should use different colors separating different parts of the title? Play with font styles and sizes.

4. Get new fonts/brushes - No designer can have enough fonts & Photoshop brushes. Go searching for new ones - download a whole directory of fonts and brushes and play around with them in Photoshop. Brushes are a great way to give inspiration: pick a good brush at a decent size and start splatting it on the canvas. You may be able to actually fit what you make into a design, but if you don't you might find a good color contrast or an interesting effect.

5. Use other designers to your advantage - Web designers can be of great inspiration to each other, either directly or indirectly. Go out and talk to other web designers on IM, in person, on the phone, on social networking websites, etc. Let them know of your designer block - they will probably share similar experiences with you and how they overcame theirs. If you are not feeling so socially inclined you can also go out and look at other website templates for motivation - but be careful, you don't want to rip anybody off.

So use these tips to your advantage. Let's start with the first one - take a break! Good luck.

5 Simple Steps to Build a Custom Website of Your Own

I see way too often folks just getting a free or paid template and adding some text to it and stating they have a custom website. This is not true; they do no have a custom website.

To have a custom website you have to build it yourself or have a web designer build it for you. Either way, it must be unique and fit your personality.

There are many things to take into consideration when you build a custom website; there are domain names, hosting, FTP software and more. Now these things are relatively cheap or no cost so don't get caught up into that.

Here are some simple to follow steps to build a custom website:

#1 - Get your own domain name and make it unique to your website. Choose the right domain name to match what your website is about

#2 - Get good and reliable hosting. Too many times I come across folks so just don't understand this and get any hosting then find themselves trying to switch. Check hosting companies out carefully. The number one thing you must be sure of is their support, if they have good reliable support you should be fine.

#3 - Your Graphics, now as much as you might hear that graphics will make your website more professional looking and better, this just isn't always true any more. You do not need graphics on your website to make it work. Yes, you can have graphics on your website, but keep them simple, like the cover of your product if you are selling one, a picture of yourself, you can have a simple header at the top but it is not necessary. I have found that I get more subscribers without the header :)

#4 - Your layout keep your layout simple and easy to use. Your navigation should be on the left hand side, as this is where most people look for it since it has always been there on all other websites or across the top. Don't change what works! Make sure your categories are easy to understand for your visitors, don't use fancy wording that they might not understand be clear to what each category is.

#5 - Content! This is the biggest part of your website and you have to be sure you are delivering quality content. Keep your content short and to the point. Make bullets to have the important parts stand out. Make short 3 or 4 sentence paragraphs. Have sub headlines in the middle of your pages there are a lot of people out there today that just scan webpages. Make sure you tell your visitors Exactly what you want them to do and how they can do it.

There you go 5 simple steps to build a custom website, put these to use and you can have your very own custom website in no time at all. Building websites today is easier than ever, since there aren't many people anymore that care about graphics and fancy flash sites, they are more apt to leave your page with that stuff on it then actually read your site.
